Yamaha Stryker cooling issues – resolved

So after going through the plan mentioned before – of course it was the last step with ECU in the picture… The bike’s computer being bad, especially on a newer bike, is very uncommon. Only one thing is not working too, which is even more weird… I’ve started analyzing wiring diagrams again, trying to remember what has changed since I last saw the fan spinning. Water temperature sensor IS wired directly to ECU and thinking logically – no other external device/sensor should interfere with such a crucial thing as “overheating the bike”!

I had limited time, needed to drive to technical inspection so just jumped the fan relay and added a switch to turn the fan on ๐Ÿ™‚ all good, passed inspection on a second try ๐Ÿ˜€ had several issues with my digital speedometer (for some reason it did factory reset few times) and then it dawned on me! Digital speedometer? The only thing with some logic inside and not OEM on the bike… ๐Ÿ˜ It’s crazy to think Yamaha engineers would add some logic to an external device like speedometer, which can break or fail or whatever and without it bike would overheat, hard start when hot (needs to be revved until it settles), rough idle at low rpm etc. :O Quickly rewired stock speedometer back aaaand what do you know – IT WORKS! The fan turns itself on/off when required, no issues starting the bike when it’s hot, basically all weird issues went away… So beware if you want to mess with the stock speedometer ๐Ÿ˜‰ DAMN YOU YAMAHA!!!

Youโ€™ll find the wiring diagram, my thoughts on why it’s doing this and what to search for when buying an aftermarket speedometer at my:
