My first “ZERO” electricity bill!
โ
It’s in Lithuanian, but you get the point ๐ “No subscription fees” for both storing and transfer of electricity – so zeroes all the way ๐ The grid operator takes 12% cut of all electricity I’ve pushed to them in a month so if my solar does not make any – zero for them too ๐ So here are some numbers how long and how much it took for me to get to that zero bill:
- 10.32kW Solar was turned-on on July 27th 2023
- It did cost me ~10600EUR: ~3300EUR will be compensated from the government, so let’s say the total is 7300EUR
- up to 1st of October 2023 it made 2795,14kWh (at least inverter says so)
- I have 1178,92kWh left unused at that day (according to my main grid operator)
- sooooo, I’ve “used” 1616,22kWh in two months (that’s with 12% cut included)? Plausible, but suspicious…
- I would have paid ~115EUR for that much ๐
- Based on the current electricity price it would take Solar ~10.5 years to pay itself out… ๐ and that’s with 30% compensation from the government…
Of course the price won’t be that low in NORD-POOL for long, but on the other hand – I won’t be using my air conditioning in the winter too. When prices skyrocketed in 2022 – I’ve paid ~330EUR per month (@0.68EUR per kWh) for a while. With that it would take less than 2 years for the same solar to start making money ๐ let’s hope it doesn’t repeat though… for the sake of all humanity…
In the meantime I will install my own electricity trackers for the mains, I already have my solar inverter integrated to Home Assistant – it will be a good opportunity to check by how much (if any) grid operator lies about my used/stored electricity ๐ I won’t be using any sophisticated or operator tested/approved equipment but it should be ok to see what’s what.
