The History – Cars
—
It all started in 2004, when I’ve relocated to Vilnius (capital of Lithuania). My new job had a requirement of a personal car… which I didn’t have 🙂 Employer gave me two weeks to buy it so I was not picky – a quick run to the car market and I was a proud owner of 1991 year Mitsubishi Colt 1.5L. It did the job, that’s it. I can’t even find any pictures of it, that’s how much I liked it 😀 so here’s a generic picture from the internet (as close as possible to mine shitbox):
At this point I’ve started looking around, searching for new friends – car clubs started to emerge. Found several other guys with Mitsubishi cars, started to meet, hang around in a parking lot etc. and soon I’ve realized – time to switch to a better Mitsu.
General maintenance, radio and 1 year later – another shitbox, but this time newer, faster and with… sperm… ornaments on the side? o_O
Outside – a little bit beat up, all panels were either bent or with a hail damage, but inside – technically sound. 1.6L, weighted barely 1 ton – a quick city bug.
We’ve registered “Lithuanian Mitsubishi Club”, started a forum etc. sooo I’ve started throwing money into the Colt 🙂 You know – not to be the ugliest from the bunch 😀
- Full re-spray with panel fix and several external mods
- Wheels/Tires
- Suspension (including drop)
- Brakes
- Sound system
- etc. etc. etc.
And ended up with this:
5 years later – year 2010 and another upgrade. Eagle Talon TSi (2L Turbo, FWD):
An opportunity presented itself (a member of the Mitsu club put this one for sale), I had some money laying around – and it’s mine 🙂 Finally a car with decent power – 210HP/290Nm. Maybe now it sounds funny, when youtube is littered with builds over 1000HP, but let’s be realistic – back then it was very decent, especially in post-soviet country like ours… I was very proud of myself 😀 but this talon was stock – hence the story from the start:
- EVO Turbo/Injectors/ECU
- Full re-spray with panel fix and external mods
- Wheels/Tires
- Suspension (including lowering springs)
- Brakes
- Interior
- etc. etc. etc.
It turned out pretty good:
there’s a transformation video with mod list:
I’ve tried to do most of the things by myself in the leased garage, but when maintenance became almost every week’s subject (you know… Mitsubishi life) and reasonable mods were done – it was time to move on 🙂
Sold it, new owner decided to change the head gasket, “put it all together” and blew the motor to pieces 🙁 He tried to argue it was not his fault but from the photos and video it was very apparent the motor went to a hydrolock… As he did not find a spare 4G63T (turbo) motor in our area – Talon was parted out, unfortunately 🙁
NEXT – my dream car (at least from Mitsubishi), EVO X.
This time I went with a different approach. Found one locally, already fixed and slightly modded. Thought it would be nice to actually drive a car, for once, instead of fixing it all the time 🙂
Sadly it was fixed by someone with both hands growing out of his ass. He used the cheapest parts possible, but mod list and price were good so I’ve bought it. Not that I had much to choose from – the list of available EVO X for sale was very short 🙂
4K worth of parts, the usual mods and fixes, 3 years of ownership and one crash later – COVID came. Work moved to fully remote, I drove it less and less so one day the decision was made to upgrade our family car park. EVO was sold 🙁
I’ve purchased Cupra Formentor (2L 310HP AWD) for my wife as a family car 😀 And Genesis Coupe (3.8L 306HP RWD) for myself as a fun “grocery getter” 🙂
These two are still with me and I would guess they will be here for at least 5 years? We’ll see 🙂
Maybe EVO spoiled me, all cars under 300HP seems slow now 🙂 Most of these cars deserve it’s own thread so I’ll try to remember and write as much as I can.
